The Story Behind This Site
It Started With a $2,400 Withdrawal That Never Came
Back in 2018, one of our founders hit a decent win at an offshore casino that shall remain nameless. C$2,400 sitting in the account, verified documents submitted, withdrawal requested. Then... nothing. Weeks of "processing." Generic support responses. Eventually, the casino simply stopped replying.
That money never arrived.
The frustrating part wasn't just the loss—it was realising there was nowhere trustworthy to check before depositing. Every "review" site ranked that same casino in their top 10. Why? Because it paid the highest affiliate commissions.
So We Built Something Different
This site exists because we got burned and didn't want others to face the same thing. Every casino listed here has passed a gauntlet we designed specifically to catch the problems that plagued us:
The Withdrawal Test
We don't review casinos from press releases. We deposit real CAD—usually C$200-500—play through any wagering requirements, then request a withdrawal. The casino doesn't know we're reviewers. We time everything:
- How long until the withdrawal is "approved"?
- How long until funds actually arrive?
- Did they request additional verification at withdrawal (a common stall tactic)?
- Was the process what they advertised?
Casinos that fail this test don't appear on our site. Full stop.
The Support Stress Test
We contact support with deliberately tricky questions at inconvenient times—Sunday nights, statutory holidays. How long do they take? Do they actually solve problems or just paste FAQ responses? Can they explain their own bonus terms clearly?
The Fine Print Audit
We read every bonus T&C. Not skim—read. We calculate effective bonus value after wagering, check game restrictions, note maximum bet limits, identify withdrawal caps on winnings. The headline "500% BONUS!!!" means nothing if the terms make it impossible to cash out.
Who's Behind This?
Three Canadians who've collectively spent too much time (and money) at online casinos:
- A former casino customer support rep from Ontario who saw how the industry operates from the inside
- A financial analyst from Vancouver who brings spreadsheet obsession to bonus math
- A tech journalist from Montreal who's been covering iGaming since 2015
We're not influencers or affiliates-first content farms. We're players who got tired of getting played.
How We Make Money (And How It Doesn't Corrupt Us)
Affiliate commissions. When you click through and sign up, casinos pay us. It's how every casino review site operates.
The difference is what we do with that dynamic:
- We've blacklisted casinos offering 50%+ commission rates because those rates often indicate a casino that doesn't expect players to last long enough to be profitable otherwise
- We've featured casinos with zero affiliate programmes because they were genuinely good for Canadian players
- We've turned down "sponsored review" offers that would guarantee positive coverage
Our reputation is worth more than any single commission cheque.
What We Won't Do
- Accept payment for rankings
- Promote casinos we haven't personally tested
- Hide negative information because a casino "pays well"
- Pretend offshore gambling is legal when it operates in a grey area
- Tell you gambling is a smart way to make money
A Note on Responsible Gambling
We've seen gambling addiction up close. One team member has a family member who lost their home. We take this seriously.
If you're spending more than you can afford, lying about gambling, or chasing losses—stop. Call ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 or visit responsiblegambling.org.
Casinos are entertainment. The moment they become anything else, walk away.
